Camera Ready Instructions

Submission deadline: 2 December 2019 for regular papers and for invited papers

The accepted papers are published in an LNCS volume entitled:

Language and Automata Theory and Applications - LATA 2020 Alberto Leporati, Carlos Martín-Vide, Dana Shapira, Claudio Zandron (Eds.)

Preparation steps:

  • 1.- Please take carefully into account the suggestions of the reviewers and make the necessary modifications to your paper.
  • 2.- Follow the technical instructions (described in the next column); prepare your bibliography using BibTex together with the style splncs04.bst provided by Springer.
  • 3.- Authors should include their ORCID identifier in the header of their paper. These ORCID Id will be replaced by ORCID icons, linking from the eBook directly to ID entry in the ORCID database. See an example here.
  • 4.- LNCS recommends keywords, to be added after the abstract. Please flag in which of the categories announced in the call for papers does your paper fit better, as the first keyword (more details in the technical instructions).
  • 5.- There is a limit of 12 pages for regular contributions. For invited papers, the length is up to 24 pages.
  • 6.- Fill in the copyright form (pdf, 184KB). This copyright form is already partially filled in (with the title of the book and the volume editors). It is sufficient for one of the authors to sign the copyright form. Careful, university jobs do not mean "employee of EU"!
  • 7.- Pack your working files (tex file(s), pictures, splncs04.bst, a bibliography (.bib) file) into a zip archive. Make minimal zip archives when submitting, do not add llncs.cls, the pdf version of the paper or the copyright form.
  • 8.- Click here to submit your files using your EasyChair author account; follow the instructions after login for uploading three files:
    • ► a zip archive with your source files,
    • ► a pdf version of your paper,
    • ► the signed copyright form. If you do not find the appropriate forms for sources and copyright, then probably you are still in the "papers for review" area of EasyChair. To move to LNCS proceedings just click on the menu LNCS.
  • 9.- After submitting the files, EasyChair gives some messages. ONLY ONE warning message is allowed: Package amsmath Warning: Unable to redefine math accent \vec. The rest of warnings or errors should be solved by the authors making the appropriate corrections. Pay a special attention to overfull boxes!
  • 10.- At least one author per paper should register. Papers that do not have a registered author who paid the fees by 2 December 2019 will be excluded from the proceedings. This will be strictly enforced. Follow the updated directions about the registration and payment procedure at the registration page. Please notice that those who will register as students will need to show the proof of their status (student ID or university certificate) at the organizers' request.

Using Colors

In the printed volume, illustrations are generally black and white (halftones), and only in exceptional cases, and if the authors are prepared to cover the extra costs involved, are colored pictures accepted. Colored pictures are welcome in the electronic version free of charge. If you send colored figures that are to be printed in black and white, please make sure that they really are also legible in black and white. Some colors show up very poorly when printed in black and white.

  • ► Please check the visibility of pictures, they should be large enough to read/understand in the printed version.
  • ► Check also the legends of the graphics, use different markers that show clearly the differences among various lines represented.

Don'ts

  • ► do not change the default font of the document (that is do not \usepackage{times} or other fonts), or use too many variations on fonts.
  • ► do not \usepackage[...]{babel} ,
  • ► do not use whatever fancy signs as in mathabx.
  • ► do not modify \qed.
  • ► do not use a4wide or geometrix.
  • ► avoid using \vspace, and in any case \vspace with a negative argument. If things are not going as we wish, instead of negative \vspace there should be another solution.
  • ► do not use \newpage for formatting reasons, trying to fit floating figures or tables.
  • ► do not use frames around figures, algorithms, other elements of your paper.
  • ► do not use a complicated directory structure for your document, usually for a short paper things can be solved with a single source file.
  • ► do not use \newcommand{\keywords}... The new LNCS style has internally defined this command.
  • ► do not \usepackage{hyperref}
  • ► do not \usepackage{caption}
  • ► do not use \mailsa to specify the authors' email address, where \mailsa is defined as \urldef{\mailsa}\path|an@email} we can use \email{...} command available in the llncs.cls.
  • ► do not use \mainmatter; this is a command only for the whole volume, for papers inside the volume this is rather undesirable.
  • ► do not use \sloppy; a simple solution for overfull errors could be to rephrase the sentences causing problems; in many cases \usepackage{microtype} helps too.

Several tips

  • • ► In case we still wish to use hyperref, despite of the recommendation from Don'ts, we can do it like this: \usepackage[hidelinks]{hyperref}
  • • If we need subfigures, then we could
    \usepackage[caption=false]{subfig} ...and when needed the subfigures...
    \begin{figure}
    \centering
    \subfloat[label (a)\label{fig:label:a}]{
    \includegraphics[width=.48\textwidth]{subfig_a}
    }
    \subfloat[label (b)) \label{fig:label:b}]{
    \includegraphics[width=.48\textwidth]{subfig_b}
    }
    \caption{general caption}
    \end{figure}
  • • ► For tables giving an Overfull Errors, we can simply correct with \resizebox{\textwidth}{!}{\begin{tabular}{|l||c|c|c|c|c|}...\end{tabular}}
  • • ► \usepackage{breqn} to break line in equations
  • • ► To scale math arrays:
    ```\newcommand\scalemath[2]{\scalebox{#1}{\mbox{\ensuremath{\displaystyle #2}}}}
    \[\scalemath{0.96}{
    \begin{array}...
    ..\end{array}}
    \]```
    •   ► In case we wish to avoid the warning message about redefine math accent:
    ```\let\accentvec\vec
    \documentclass[runningheads, envcountsame, a4paper]{llncs}
    \let\spvec\vec
    \let\vec\accentvec
  • • ► To prevent hyphenate on the dash of the compound words: \usepackage[shortcuts,cyremdash]{extdash} and replace - with \=/, example: low-resource becomes low\=/resource
